Stewards of the Mysteries

Like many others, I have been meditating on Psalm 24 this year. Each verse, much like the verses of Psalm 23, offer nuggets of wisdom to ponder. I was struck by verse two of chapter 24, "For He has built it upon the seas. He has set it upon the rivers." (NLV)

In speaking of the world, Kind David knew something that was unearthed not long ago.  As recently as 2014, scientists discovered huge reservoirs of water stored within ringwoodite located about 400 miles beneath the Earth's surface. These subterranean oceans possess three times more water than the total of the oceans on the surface. This finding is not only fascinating but has also evoked new questions about the Earth's water cycle.

King David's utterance was not just a poetic nicety, but actually a valid statement.

Last week, I touched on Job's revelation, which hinted toward gravity, a completely foreign concept of his day.

The Bible has always offered truths before scientifically proven by man. I learned of one older example from my fifth grade biology class. My teacher, a devout Catholic with ten kids, gave us the disclaimer that the Big Bang theory was just that...a theory.  He boldly declared that, "If God wanted to hand place every star in the sky or cause a big explosion to do it all at once, God was still the Creator of our universe." This same teacher taught me that bacteria was discovered in 1676, which confirmed the proper washing techniques, quarantining of the sick, handling of dead bodies, and waste removal laid out by Moses in the book of Leviticus.

Modern neuroscience explains Romans 12 with self-directed neuroplasticity. We litterly can be "transformed by the renewing of our minds." In the quest to reprogram ourselves we need to take advantage of when our brain is producing the most alpha brain waves. This happens when coming out of a meditative state or when we first wake up. Checkout Proverbs 23:7, 2 Corinthians 10:5, and Psalm 5:3. These scientific and Biblical facts are good news for anyone who wants to improve their attachment style or work on any mental or emotional issue.

Such facts fuel the apologetics that defend the faith. But I want to focus on something else. We, as God's people, are entrusted with His mysteries before mankind as a whole.

Think of that!

Jesus said to His disciples, "I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you." (NIV)

Can you think of a time God revealed something to you? Chances are it wasn't through an audible voice but perhaps through scripture, or in the words of a trusted friend, or maybe it was just a knowing.

When words settle in your heart and spirit differently than the norm, it may just be God communicating with you!

What a privilege!

Jesus shares what He learned from the Father with His friends. We are talking about the All Powerful God imparting knowledge to you! Are you listening? Do you take time to respond when you sense an inkling from heaven? Are you self aware enough to know when a thought or feeling did not originate with you?

If so, have you received a mystery? Have you shared your revelation with others???

I would love to hear what God has revealed to you. Consider Matthew 10:27, "What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs."

If you haven't received anything noteworthy in awhile or ever, take time to ask and listen. He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Revisting: If I Were a Bird & The Season of the Ox

Today I'm revisting two posts from June of this year. My regular devotional reading has me back in Ezekiel and back to the four living creatures. With the Hebrew calendar ending in September, today was the first day I asked the Lord for my word for this upcoming Hebrew year. All things considered, I felt it necessary to revist these posts. Now, I know of at least one dream that was not from the Lord. I'm not sure I am done learning about the ox, but I've learned a little.  If I were a Bird Recently I had three separate people, in three distinct settings begin a thought with, "If I were a bird."  Bizarre, right? At the first comment, I began to joyfully hear Nelly Furtado's "I'm Like a Bird" song in my head. By the third comment, in a matter of just forty-eight hours, I was curious. I could not recall ever hearing anyone share such a thought before, and then to have a few in a short matter of time had me wondering. Seemed either an odd coincidence...

Revisting: Wisdom & Authority

Today we are revisting a post from August 18th, 2023. How important it is for each of us to rightly balance wisdom and authority in our own lives. That balance becomes more crucially necessary in marriage. Wisdom & Authority  My husband and I had our routine check-ups this week. He is an emergency room nurse and promptly schedules all of our appointments. For two decades of my adult life, I took care of these matters myself. His planning is a welcome change in married life. He is also handy and takes immaculate care of our yard. Really I won the husband lottery because he also cooks, cleans, and is good at basically everything.   Not that he does everything. We share a fairly even distribution of responsibilities in running our household and raising our daughter. I may not be handy, but I was a responsible homeowner before we met. As someone who left home at 17 and married at 37, I learned how to take care of things on my own, but life is better together. Both my husb...

Revisting: Never Ignore

Today, we are revisting a post from July 13, 2023. One thing we can count on is changing emotions. One day we deal with intense anger, the next extreme apathy. Our emotions may not be wise, but they are telling. Never Ignore I came cruising into my day refreshed and ready to go. Then, I experienced anger. Someone's misinformation inconvenienced my easy, breezy day.  Anger is one of those emotions I find less becoming than others. I was trying to calm myself down when Holy Spirit reminded me that I was not designed to reconcile my emotions on my own. In the past, I have fallen prey to ignoring and stuffing my emotions, but nowadays, I am more likely to try and reconcile my emotions on my own. Perhaps when I have "figured out" what needs to change, I then might go to God to request said changes. Today, I managed to be reminded that God likes us to come to Him raw. In the heat of anger or depths of despair, He wants to be invited into what we are feeling, thinking, and exper...
